Agora

Magdalena Abakanowicz

2006

The largest of Magdalena Abakanowicz's permanent installations, Agora, is made of cast iron and on display in Chicago's Grant Park. The 106 headless human figures are positioned as if they are walking in different directions. The nine-foot tall pieces represent the Polish artist's family history in World War II. The name Agora was given to the piece, which is the Greek word for 'meeting place.'
