Sol Lewitt usually works with aluminum scultpure that is based into geometric shapes. Lines in Four Directions is an example of his large scale sculpture. There are four equally sized squares of low relief running vertically, horizontally, and diagonally. The light that hits the piece creates shadows to appear to create a different shade in each square.
