Ivan Mestrovic is a Croatian sculptor that created The Bowman and the Spearman facing each other across Congress parkway. The bronze equestrians act as a gateway to Grant Park and were created to commemorate the Native Americans and the struggle of the settlement of this land. The artist did not include weapons because he intended for them to be imagined by the viewer.
