Flamingo

Alexander Calder

1974

Alexander Calder, an artist known for his ‘mobiles’ and ‘stabiles,’ created Flamingo which is a 50-ton stable created for the General Services Administration in Chicago in 1974. This 53 foot tall steel curvilinear structure is an interactive piece that viewers can walk around and under. The bright red color is a stark contrast against the darker linear buildings behind it.
